Furniture is the second most intimate thing we live with.
The purpose of this collection is to stimulate conversation about sexual acceptance.
This concept will not be comfortable for the entire market.
This furniture would be most appropriate to be marketed towards gallery settings, collectors, and niche markets.
Buyers advocate the conversation while viewers involuntarily develop an emotional response.
This collection comments on: social norms, taboos, sexualization, and sexuality as a whole.
With the intent of bringing an honest essence of emotional and sometimes physical intimacy into a home.
Through the analyzation of object language, sexual marketing, and desire I have applied the knowledge to furniture.
With the hope of bringing acceptance and awareness to personal fantasy and it’s integration into the physical world.
Match Box for Design Within Reach
Design Within Reach Product Brief: Stone Accessories & Objects (Morrison Off-Cuts), part of the collaboration between Jasper Morrison, Egg Collective and DWR leaves leftover Carrara marble remnants of odd sizes.
The goal of this brief was to design an accessory or decorative object that would create minimal waste and fit in with the DWR line.
I designed and fabricated a modern match box, which holds strike anywhere matches. There is a rough cut, unpolished left side and once struck the match will ignite.
The box was then gifted to the CEO, John Edelman after his praise for the design.
The product with be released in 2017 by Design Within Reach.
These are repurposed marble candle holders. They were designed and fabricated for Design Within Reach with their leftover marble cut-offs from their collaboration with Egg Collective. You can also find these for sale at Shop SCAD, via https://www.shopscad.com/shop/
These are napkin rings designed for Design Within Reach. They would not be misplaced or shoved into a drawer, but a modern table top item, and a conversation piece for any meal. It can become multi-functional; ceramic tiles may be used in place of the colors to become a hotplate, and the colors can be changed seasonally. The wood inlay rare earth magnets hold the napkin holders together, making it easy to stack and pull apart. The piece can lay flat or stand upright.
